Private Adoption

Private adoption includes Agency Assisted Adoption and Interstate Adoption. The prospective adoptive family has the opportunity to adopt a child either through an out of state agency or through a private referral. Catholic Charities will provide the home study and follow up post placement reports as required by the court.

Adoptive parents will retain their own attorney to represent them whether in the State of Illinois or another state. The attorney will file all necessary paperwork, provide all legal advice and assist them in court proceedings.

  • $700 is due at application
  • $700 is due within 30 days of initiating the adoption home study
  • $600 is due at the completion of the adoption home study.
  • For each post placement report completed a fee of $175 will be due at the time the report is completed and prior to submission to the appropriate agency.

Please note: The home study will not be forwarded to the court or placing agency unless full payment has been received by the agency.

Separate fees will be charged for fingerprint background checks for FBI and State of Illinois (IBI), the current fee for the FBI and State of Illinois combined is $60.00/person, these fees are paid directly to the vendor and the results are sent to Catholic Charities.
