Caritas: A Catholic Charities Auxiliary
“Caritas” is a Latin word meaning “love” and “charity”. In 1986, caring and committed volunteer Lisa Rubin-Johnson, with the help of Jody Deery, recognized the additional good which could be accomplished with the help of a fundraising arm of Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Rockford. Through their efforts, the Diocese's Caritas Auxiliary was formed. Since then, the Auxiliary has raised more than $450,000 for youth and family programs within the Rockford Diocese.
Over the years there have been many selfless volunteers who aided the growth of Caritas. We are a group of dedicated, loving people who embrace the mission of helping Rockford area children and their families.
Caritas Board
Caritas donates funds to purchase a bus for the children of
St. Elizabeth so they can go on field trips. His name is "Shorty".
One Christmas "Shorty" was one of Santa's helpers picking up presents from Holy Family, Rockford
for the children we serve.
